First time author Darnell Brown is a twenty year old native of the city of Chester Pennsylvania.
From an early age, Darnell expressed a deep understanding of writing
and the ability to tell a story, (even if it was to get out of
trouble). He actually had no intention on becoming a writer or for that
matter, writing poetry; but one beautiful young woman changed all of
that. Good friend, Talea McKnight inspired Darnell in ways he never
thought imaginable. Without her, he would not be the person he is today
and that is a special bond they will share forever.
Darnell’s
poetry is a way for him to express his thoughts, relay his emotions,
discuss an important issue, tell a story and most importantly, a way
for him to talk to the world. He writes to share a piece of himself
with everyone; no matter what color they may be. He enjoys meeting new
people and each new experience they bring to him. He loves his family
and doesn’t mind talking about the good and bad times they went
through.
Darnell and his little sister Danielle are the children of Larry and Gail Brown
who got divorced when Darnell was only 12. He had a difficult time
trying to be the mature young man his parents wanted him to be and deal
with the pain he kept inside. He knew he had to be strong if not for
himself, then for the one person that means more to him than anyone
else, Danielle. He uses his feelings towards his parent’s divorce and
his stepmother to discuss this issue with other young men and women
that maybe felt just as he did.
City Limits is Darnell’s chance to prove everyone wrong. “There have been so many people that think that nothing good can come from Chester. 'No one can make a difference and be from Chester.'
This book gives me the chance to let that kid at Chester High who is
sitting in class thinking he/she wants to be something but doesn’t
believe he or she can do it. This book gives me the chance to bring
hope to the hopeless and faith the faithless. One day I will be
mentioned in the same breath as the great American writers I had to
learn about. One day Chester
will be known for its accomplishments and not its failures. One day the
word “Tomorrow” will not simply be a goal we never reached, it will be
the door we opened and finally walked through; and I want to be the one
with my hand on the knob.”
