City Limits, the first book by author Darnell Brown is a collection of thoughts meant to enable the reader to gain knowledge of the author and hopefully, yourself. Written over a period of one year, City Limits explores such topics as self-acceptance, racism, equality, appreciation, education, family, life, death, love and much more. Personal experiences are littered throughout the book to give the reader a more personal understanding of life’s trials and tribulations seen through the eyes of the many characters created by Darnell. City Limits heartfelt tone assists in painting the vivid pictures Darnell has created to express himself to a diverse audience.
Take a journey you will never forget. Find your limits and go beyond...
The path that laid before me was a difficult one to trot
Because all those who came before me, said they would not
Walk a path they could call their own
Walk a path that begins at home
Oh, how I wish I could just go home
Oh, how I wish I could just pick up a phone
To call someone to stand by my side
Call someone who won’t run and hide
But there’s no one there
And it’s eating me alive
Why must I be the one called, “First”
Why must I be the one dying of thirst
I thirst for a sip of compassion and understanding
But I guess this is what comes with what I was demanding
Demanding a chance for me to be me
Demanding a chance for them to see
That you are you, and I am I
And there should be no reason for you to ask why
I don’t see things the way that you do
And that’s O.K, because that’s what makes you…you
I hope that day comes sooner rather than later
For the weight on my shoulders, is getting greater and greater
But I must press on so that they will see
Why I walk the path that lays before me
